What are the characteristics of the Poderi Arcangelo Holiday Farm? View our map
The Poderi Arcangelo Holiday Farm is a complex of three farmhouses located on a hill in front of San Gimignano, surrounded by 25 hectares of native vineyards and olive groves, which make up the Poderi Arcangelo Farm, producer of organic wine and organic extra virgin olive oil.

The Poderi Arcangelo Holiday Farm is an eco-sustainable and self-sufficient farm equipped with a 50KW photovoltaic system for the production of electricity. As part of the recent renovations a phytodepuration plant was built for the treatment of wastewater from the farm.
The main building, Casa Capezzano, is an old farmhouse which dates back to the late 19th century and is located on top of the hill. It houses the reception area, the restaurant and 19 rooms, 5 of which are in the Bio House, the old barn has been completely renovated in accordance with the principles of Green building.

Going down the hill you will find Casa San Raffaello, a farmhouse surrounded by greenery, with a large swimming pool overlooking the towers of San Gimignano. Casa San Raffaello is divided into eight apartments which can accomodate between 2 and 6 people each, ideal for families, with plenty of space outside for children.
Casa Arcangelo is located on Capezzano road, it is on your left as you go up the hill towards the Main farmhouse. The house, a former convent built in the late 17th century, is ideal for groups of 18-25 people, friends or several families who want exclusive use of the entire house and the beautiful garden with swimming pool.

What are the check-in and check-out times?
Check-in is from 15:00 to 19:00, while the check-out must be done before 10:30

Is it possible to arrive outside the check-in times?
If you cannot arrive within the scheduled times, please notify us by phone; in front of the reception you will find an envelope with your name, keys and directions to reach your room.
There will also be a contact telephone number for any emergencies.

Is there a luggage storage service in case of early arrival or late departure?
If you need to leave your luggage due to early arrival or late departure, you can leave it with our staff during the reception opening hours.

What are the reception opening hours?

The reception is open from 9:00-13:00 and from 15:00-19:00, if you arrive outside of these hours please notify us.

Is there a bar service available?
During the reception opening hours our staff will be happy to serve you coffee or fresh drinks.

Is there parking available?

Our farmhouses that make up the Poderi Arcangelo Holiday Farm are located on a hill in front of San Gimignano, in a very quiet location, all the facilities are equipped with unattended private outdoor parking.

Is it possible to take animals with me? What size?
Our Holiday Farm is Pet Friendly and 4-legged friends, up to 8 kg in weight, are welcome.
Pets are allowed in the accommodation and in some of the common areas for an extra charge.

Is there babysitting available?
On request, guests can take advantage of a babysitting service.
Is it possible to rent scooters and bicycles

On request we can make use of an external service for the rental of bicycles, mountain bikes, motorbikes and scooters Does the Holiday Farm have Wi-Fi?

Poderi Arcangelo guests can enjoy free Wi-Fi in all the rooms and common areas.

What services are included in the B&B accommodation?

Unlimited access to the WI-FI and dedicated parking for each building; during the opening months, from March to October, your stay includes a delicious sweet and savoury buffet breakfast with typical products; access to the swimming pool of the house where you are staying;
For those staying on Saturday, you will have the opportunity to participate in the free tastings of products from our farm.

How many rooms does the Holiday Farm have?
The Poderi Arcangelo Holiday Farm is a complex of three farmhouses located on a hill in front of San Gimignano. The Holiday Farm complex, composed of the three buildings, has 30 rooms of different types and 8 apartments. We are therefore confident that we can offer you the most suitable accommodation for your needs

Are there any rooms with a view?
The three farmhouses that make up the Poderi Arcangelo holiday farm are surrounded by greenery and almost all the rooms and apartments enjoy a beautiful view of the hills of Siena.

Do the bathrooms have a bathtub or shower?
The bathrooms are equipped with comfortable shower cubicles

Are there family rooms or connected rooms?

The Poderi Arcangelo Holiday Farm has different types of rooms and apartments which are perfectly suited to families, who will certainly be able to find the ideal accommodation.

Up to what age do children stay for free?
Children under one year old do not pay if they sleep with their parents, there are cots available on request, for a supplementary fee.

Are there cots available for children?
At Poderi Arcangelo Holiday Farm there are cots available on request at reception for a small supplement.

Do you have rooms adapted for disabled travellers?
Most of the rooms at Poderi Arcangelo are on the ground floor and therefore suitable for disabled travellers, but as we are located on top of a hill, movement and access to some services can be difficult.
The farmhouses, which were recently renovated, are not equipped with an elevator because during the renovation we decided to respect the architectural features of the structures which date back to the late 19th century.

Do you have rooms for smokers?

Smoking is not allowed in the rooms.

Are the rooms air-conditioned?

All the rooms in our farmhouses have air conditioning

Is it possible to tune in to international television channels?
All the rooms have LCD televisions and in addition to the Italian language channels, there is a channel available in English, one in French and one in German.

RESTAURANT

What are the opening times of the restaurant and what kind of catering is on offer?
The restaurant is open for dinner every day from the 1st of March to the 2nd of November. From November to February it is only open during bank holiday weekends and public holidays.
At 20:00 guests can taste typical Tuscan cuisine, with a set menu consisting of four courses prepared by the expert hands of Mrs. Maria.

Is it possible to have lunch at the Poderi?

The restaurant is open only for dinner, but on request for guests spending the day by the pool we can organize a light lunch.

Are tastings organised?

The Poderi Arcangelo Holiday Farm is also an Organic farm. We are producers of Extra virgin olive oil and Organic wine, on Saturday afternoons we offer our guests a free tasting of our products.

Are there theme dinners or food and wine events? Can people who are not staying at the Holiday Farm also have dinner in the restaurant?
Mrs. Maria is the queen of the kitchen and offers, upon reservation, personalized or themed lunches and dinners, with special menus for special occasions or for groups of friends who like to share the pleasures of good food.
Under the ancient vaulted ceiling of the dining room in Casa Capezzano or on the beautiful panoramic outdoor terrace, or among the vineyards of the farm, authentic dishes from typical Tuscan cuisine are served that will make your experience unique and unforgettable.

What time is breakfast served?
Breakfast is served from 8:00 to 10:00.

Is breakfast included in the price?
During the opening period, from March to October, all our room rates are inclusive of breakfast.

Do you offer menus for vegetarians and vegans?
The Poderi Arcangelo Holiday Farm is attentive to the dietary needs of its guests, with vegetarian and vegan menus available on request.

Do you offer children’s menus?
The restaurant provides and prepares children’s menus upon prior request to the staff.

Are there high chairs for children available in the dining room?

Yes, the restaurant has high chairs for children.

SWIMMING POOLS

How many swimming pools does the Poderi Arcangelo Holiday Farm have?
The Poderi Arcangelo Holiday Farm is composed of three farmhouses located on the same hill, 500 metres from each other.
Each farmhouse has its own panoramic swimming pool surrounded by greenery.
Casa Capezzano, a late 19th century farmhouse has an infinity pool measuring 8 x 16 metres with a depth ranging from 90 to 230 cm.
Casa San Raffaello and Casa Arcangelo, are recently renovated farmhouses each with their own swimming pool, 500 metres from Casa Capezzano, the main farmhouse

What are the characteristics of the Poderi Arcangelo Organic Farm?
The Poderi Arcangelo Organic Farm, founded in 1970, is located on the beautiful hills around San Gimignano, right in the heart of Chianti

The Mora family has been producing wine and extra-virgin olive oil for 3 generations and currently has 25 hectares of autochthonous and organically grown vines. The main production is with Vernaccia San Gimignano DOCG, Trebbiano, Malvasia, Chardonnay and Sangiovese, Colorino, Ciliegiolo, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon grapes. We are listed in the most important wine guides and our most prestigious wines, such as Supertuscan Granbaccano IGT and Vernaccia San Gimignano Riserva DOCG, have received international recognition.

What agricultural techniques are used on the Farm?
Our philosophy is that a good farmer leaves the land better than he found it and for this reason we have chosen to implement the organic management of the whole farm since 2000.
The technology that we use in the cellar is of great help for our winemaking techniques using traditional methods

Is it possible to buy organic products from the Poderi Arcangelo Farm?
In the room located next to the reception area, you can buy our own products such as Chianti wine, Vernaccia, different types of IGT wines aged in barrels, as well as organic extra virgin olive oil, but also grappa, spirits and vinsanto.
You can also buy typical local products, strictly from organic farming, such as jams and honey, as well as the entire line of Idea Toscana organic cosmetics made with olive oil.
So that you can take with you the flavours and aromas of Tuscany!

Are tastings organised?
On Saturday afternoons we offer our guests a free tasting of our products. The tasting is also an opportunity to learn about the history of our family, understand the origins of the wine and olive oil that we have been producing for 45 years.
The tastings include the opportunity to try three representative wines, the selection of which may change according to the seasonal and availability and “organic extra virgin olive oil” on “tozzetti” of Tuscan bread.

Is it possible to visit the Winery?

Upon reservation we organize guided tours, in Italian and English, combined with tastings of typical products lasting about an hour. A journey that shows us how wine is created, with particular attention to the stages of the production process and vinification, while admiring from above the vineyards that surround our Farmhouses.
Visits to the winery include a tasting of our own products and other typical Tuscan products.

Which are the Cities of Art we can visit? How far are they from Poderi Arcangelo?

  • San Gimignano known throughout the world, the beautiful and unique San Gimignano, can be admired from all our gardens and is only 10 minutes by car from Poderi Arcangelo!
    San Gimignano is a medieval town that has remained virtually unchanged over the centuries and is famous for its high towers. If you are in good shape you can reach it on foot (about 10 km) through our picturesque region.
  • Certaldo Alto is one of the most beautiful medieval villages in Tuscany, quiet, relaxed and away from mass tourism. Only 5 minutes away by car from Poderi Arcangelo, it can be reached using the convenient funicular that leaves from Piazza Boccaccio every 15 minutes, or by car with convenient parking outside the walls or on foot along a beautiful and quite simple hiking route.
  • Monteriggioni just 25 minutes away by car from Poderi Arcangelo, is a rare example of a 13th century European medieval castle which has remained virtually intact with the original walls that surround it.
  • Volterra just 40 minutes from Poderi Arcangelo is the beautiful town of Volterra: here historical tradition is combined with splendid natural surroundings, from the landscape to the vegetation and fauna, offering a spectacularly rich natural heritage.
  • Siena is one of the most important cities in Tuscany. It’s about 35 minutes drive from Poderi Arcangelo. Train connections every hour from Certaldo station and bus connections from Siena station to the town centre. Train timetables are available free of charge at reception.
  • Firenze, cradle of the Renaissance, home of the Italian language, birthplace of famous artists and much more, a perfect destination for an excursion as it is only 50 minutes by car from Poderi Arcangelo, there are also excellent rail connections with trains that depart every hour from Certaldo station.   • Lucca, 1 hour and 20 minutes away by car from Poderi Arcangelo, is one of the main Italian cities of art, also famous abroad, due to its intact city walls which were built from the fifteenth to seventeenth century, forming a perimeter of about 4,223 m around the old town and making it one of only four Italian cities to have an intact circle of Renaissance walls, along with Ferrara, Grosseto and Bergamo.
  • Pisa and its leaning Tower
    One of the most famous monuments in the world … the Tower of Pisa is only 1 hour from the Poderi Arcangelo Holiday Farm, there are also rail connections with trains that depart from the nearby station of Certaldo.

What’s on offer in the Chianti area in which the Holiday Farm is located?
The Poderi Arcangelo Holiday Farm is located in the heart of the Chianti region, extending over several kilometres in the centre of Tuscany between the provinces of Florence and Siena.
There are numerous wineries that can be visited where you can taste the world-famous Chianti wine.
The Chianti area will give you the opportunity to visit many characteristic places, Radda in Chianti, Gaiole in Chianti, Castellina in Chianti, Greve in Chianti, Panzano in Chianti, Vertine and typical Tuscan castles such as Brolio Castle, Meleto Castle and Verrazzano Castle.

Are there places to visit outside the mass tourism circuit?

Tuscany is full of small villages off the beaten track, enchanted corners and unexplored wonders! Examples include: the beautiful village of Certaldo Alto a short walk from Poderi Arcangelo, the views from the small town of Barberino Val d’Elsa, the Gerusalemme di Toscana a Montaione, the uninhabited Petrognano Semifonte, the dome of Semifonte etc … and the best known: Monteriggioni, Volterra, San Miniato, San Gimignano, Vinci …

Which museums and monuments can I visit?

In addition to the beautiful cities of art and the authentic open-air museums, you can also visit:

  • San Galgano Abbey and the Sword in the Rock
    About 1 hour’s drive from Poderi Arcangelo there is a particular and beautiful abbey dating back to the 13th century that owes much of its charm to the absence of the roof and its location in the green Tuscan countryside. A few steps from the abbey, in the Montesiepi Chapel is the sword in the rock which has inspired legends which are intertwined with the saga of the knights of King Arthur!
  • Leonardo Museum – Leonardo Da Vinci museum – Vinci
    Scientist, architect, sculptor, painter, technologist, inventor, musician, astronomer, anatomist and more! Leonardo Da Vinci is the man who revolutionised the world with his cutting-edge ideas. Is it possible to spend a day at the beach? How far away is it?

Poderi Arcangelo is only about an hour from the Tuscan coast!
Hence there are several famous seaside resorts that can be easily reached during your stay. We’ll mention a few of the most famous ones Cecina, Castiglioncello, Vada, Viareggio, Forte dei Marmi, Marina di Castagneto Carducci-Donoratico, San Vincenzo.

Are there any hiking trails?
The Poderi Arcangelo Holiday Farm is nestled in the green hills of Siena, with numerous hiking trails to choose from. In fact, a short distance from the farm is the Via Francigena, the route that leads from Canterbury to Rome, along the section that runs from the Church of Christ the King in Gambassi Terme to Piazza della Cisterna in San Gimignano, a stage which is easy to walk in about 4 hours over about 13 kilometres.

Are there any bike and mountain bike routes?
Even lovers of two wheels who are staying at our facilities can enjoy several routes which will allow them to discover the Tuscan territory along the winding roads between the cypress trees in the hills of Siena, or go off road with the Mountain Bike along the wildest paths.

Is it possible to rent Vespas and explore the region?

Riding a Vespa Piaggio 125 cc or 300 cc two-seater, on both the main roads and country lanes will leave you with unforgettable memories.
Vespas can also be hired individually, with or without a guide and on request, guides are available for groups and guided tours; documents required: driving license, credit card, document with home address. Booking required.

Is it possible to play golf?

About 30 minutes by car from Poderi Arcangelo you will find the Golf Club Toscana Montaione, Loc. Castelfalfi with an extension of 1,100 hectares of green fields, vineyards, olive groves and other local crops. In this beautiful natural setting there are two golf courses: the Mountain Course (par 72, 6351 metres) and the Lake Course (par 37, 3171 metres).

Is it possible to take a trip in a hot-air balloon?
Thanks to the Italian Aerostatic Association – Tavarnelle val di Pesa you can experience an exciting balloon flight over the rolling hills of Chianti!
From 2 to 6 passengers; departure at dawn from the base in Tavarnelle Val di Pesa, about 20 minutes by car from Poderi Arcangelo. The experience lasts about 3 and a half hours of which about 1 hour is flight time. A tasty breakfast with typical local products awaits you on land. You can fly all year round but not in adverse weather conditions.

Is it possible to take horseback rides?
It is possible to book Walks and excursions on horseback, for one hour, several hours or for the whole day, in the tranquillity of the Tuscan countryside, with it possible to choose between routes with panoramic sights, as well as visits to places of historical and naturalistic interest.
You can also book single lessons, and basic riding courses for adults and children.
For those who don’t want to ride a horse there are hiking excursions. Booking required.

  • SPRING (March – May)

The Florentine Musical May, in Florence
Every year, from April to June A series of important classical music concerts, theatre pieces, prose, opera and ballet performances take place in and around Florence. We recommend booking your tickets well in advance!

International Handicrafts Trade Fair in Florence
Every year, April/May (variable dates) Since 1931, an outstanding selection of craftsmen and artists from all over the world come to sell their products: jewellery and bijoux, clothing, fabrics and leathers, accessories, cosmetics and body care products and lots of curiosities from around the world! The food section is also very interesting with many Italian and foreign specialities. There are excellent rail links between Certaldo and Florence for those who want to visit the event but don’t have their own transport.

The Explosion of the Cart, in Florence

Every year, on Easter Sunday An event that dates back about 400 years. An elaborate and decorated tower-shaped cart is pulled through the streets of Florence by two white oxen to the cathedral square of Florence. The cart, carrying fireworks, waits for a dove–shaped rocket that flies out of the Cathedral and collides with the cart, setting off a spectacular firework display According to tradition, if all of the fireworks go off together it is a good sign for the future.

Every year, on the 3rd or 4th weekend in May This event takes place in Castelfiorentino: illusionists, change artists, magicians, comedians, jugglers, cabaret artists, theatre performers and much more! An artistic route that will surprise and amaze.

  • SUMMER (June – August)

Medieval dinner in Certaldo
Every year, on the 1st and 2nd Saturday of June. Two tables set up along the main street of Certaldo Alto. A fun dinner with a menu of medieval dishes served by waiters in period costumes and entertainment shows throughout the evening. Booking required.

La Luminara, in Pisa

Every year, on the 16th of June After sunset Pisa literally lights up thousands of candles, about 70,000, which follow the contours of buildings, churches, towers and bridges creating a magnificent effect; meanwhile hundreds of floating candles are sent down the river Arno for a magical play of light and reflection. The Piazza dei Miracoli is also involved with the Cathedral, the Baptistery and of course the Leaning Tower of Pisa. Various stands selling local craft goods, accessories, sweets and games line all the streets in the centre of Pisa.

The Fireworks of San Giovanni, in Florence
Every year, on the 24th of June, Florence celebrates the patron saint of the city. On the morning of the 24th of June a procession leaves from Palazzo Vecchio in Florence to take candles to the saint. In the late afternoon, the historic game of “Florentine football” is held in Piazza Santa Croce, preceded by a parade along the entire historic centre of Florence. In the evening, from Piazzale Michelangelo in Florence, a magnificent firework display that lights up the whole of Florence … for a magical evening during your stay in Tuscany!

Every year, on the 1st and 2nd weekend in July A step back in time to relive the Monteriggioni of the past: military camps, battles, theatre performances, arts and crafts from the Middle Ages. Entrance fee paid with antique “thalers”!

Ferie delle Messi harvest festival, in San Gimignano
Every year, on the third weekend of June One of the most important events in San Gimignano, just 10 minutes away by car. Historical event in period costumes with actors, musicians, jesters, representation of medieval arts and crafts. In ancient times, the “ferie messium” festival celebrated the benevolence of nature that gave the harvest to the population.

Palio di Siena, in Siena

Every year, on the 2nd of July and 16th of August. The Palio di Siena is a popular festival, a cultural event, an equestrian tournament and much more! It has been held in Piazza del Campo in Siena since 1644 and is the most exciting and famous equestrian competition in the world. The actual race only lasts a few minutes while the days before the event are full of events such as parades, processions, dinners, rehearsals for the race, religious rites. Siena is about 35 minutes by car from the Poderi Arcangelo Holiday Farm and is easily accessible by train.

Mercantia Certaldo
Every year in mid-July (variable dates) It is one of the biggest and most important street theatre festivals. The medieval village of Certaldo Alto turns into a real midsummer dream: original artists, live shows, innovative performances, modern installations, live arts and crafts.

Every year, at the beginning of August (variable date) A single date concert given by the Tuscan tenor Andrea Bocelli performing in his home town of Lajatico at the Teatro del Silenzio. An evening full of emotions in a unique setting: outdoors, in the beautiful Tuscan countryside. After this one show, the installations are completely disassembled and everything goes back to being open countryside for another 364 days! The concert venue is about 40 minutes away by car. On request, guests can use the taxi service (for a fee).

Every year, on the 10th of August A shower of shooting stars and … glasses of excellent Tuscan wines! On the night of San Lorenzo an evening to taste the best local wines such as Vernaccia di San Gimignano, Sangiovese, Chianti etc … in the ever beautiful San Gimignano!

Nel Sogno di Messer Boccaccio (In Boccaccio’s Dreams), in Certaldo

Every year in summer (variable dates) Historical commemoration-procession that pays tribute to the illustrious poet and writer Giovanni Boccaccio, who was born in Certaldo. The event is inspired by the novels of the Decameron and stages the theatre arts: acting, music, fighting, dancing and historical dances.

  • AUTUMN (September – November)

Giovanni Boccaccio literary prize, in Certaldo
Every year, at the beginning of September An important literary prize in honour of the most illustrious citizen of Certaldo is awarded every year to an Italian writer, narrator or essayist. Established in 1982, over the years the Prize has been expanded with the section of foreign authors and with the recognition of journalistic careers, assuming an even higher cultural value. The jury is composed of critics, writers and journalists and chaired by Senator Sergio Zavoli.

What is the best way to reach the Holiday Farm?
Poderi Arcangelo Holiday Farm is located on top of a hill surrounded by greenery, in front of San Gimignano, the best way to reach us is by car, allowing you to move freely and enjoy the beauty of our region.

Which motorway exit is closest to the Holiday Farm?
The nearest A1 motorway exit, coming from the north, is Impruneta which is about 50km away, while for those coming from the south the closest exit is Valdichiana about 95 km away.

How can I reach your Holiday Farm?
For those coming from the north, the nearest exit on the A1 motorway is Impruneta. Once you have left the motorway, take the Firenze – Siena dual carriageway, exit at Poggibonsi Nord and follow the signs for Empoli – Certaldo (SS 429). Once in Certaldo continue to San Gimignano, for about 3 km, until you come across our signs “Capezzano – Agriturismo Poderi Arcangelo”, turn left and climb up to the highest point on the hill.
For those who are coming to us from the south, the reference junction is Valdichiana. Once you have left the Autostrada del Sole, take the Siena – Bettolle dual carriageway until Siena where you must continue in the direction of Florence without leaving the dual carriageway. Exit at Poggibonsi nord. Continue towards Empoli – Certaldo along State Road 429. Once in Certaldo continue towards San Gimignano, about 3 km away, turn left for Capezzano and follow the signs “Capezzano – Agriturismo Poderi Arcangelo”, climb to the top of the hill.

Unlimited access to the WI-FI and dedicated parking for each building; during the opening months, from March to October, your stay includes a delicious sweet and savoury buffet breakfast with typical products; access to the swimming pool of the house where you are staying;
For those staying on Saturday, you will have the opportunity to participate in the free tastings of products from our farm.

Is there a tourist tax? What is the daily cost?
The tourist tax is € 1.50 per day for the first 5 days, and is in force from March to October

American Express cards are accepted, as well as all cards that use the Visa and Mastercard circuit. Diners, JCB and Amex cards are not accepted.

Up to what age do children stay for free?
Children under one year old do not pay if they sleep with their parents, there are cots available on request, for a supplementary fee.
