International Handicrafts Trade Fair in Florence
Every year, April/May (variable dates) Since 1931, an outstanding selection of craftsmen and artists from all over the world come to sell their products: jewellery and bijoux, clothing, fabrics and leathers, accessories, cosmetics and body care products and lots of curiosities from around the world! The food section is also very interesting with many Italian and foreign specialities. There are excellent rail links between Certaldo and Florence for those who want to visit the event but don’t have their own transport.
The Explosion of the Cart, in Florence
Every year, on Easter Sunday An event that dates back about 400 years. An elaborate and decorated tower-shaped cart is pulled through the streets of Florence by two white oxen to the cathedral square of Florence. The cart, carrying fireworks, waits for a dove–shaped rocket that flies out of the Cathedral and collides with the cart, setting off a spectacular firework display According to tradition, if all of the fireworks go off together it is a good sign for the future.
